Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dera Ghazi Khan was established in 1989 by the struggle of the Education Minister Punjab to conduct different examinations of the students of Dera Ghazi Khan Division. This education department is also working for four districts like (Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah and Rajanpur).  Foundation stone of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dera Ghazi Khan was laid by Lt. General (Rtd) Khalid Maqbool, Governor of the Punjab on 12^th March, 2002. Presently all the offices of the Board like Chairman, Secretary, Controller and other branches are functioning in its new, vast and beautiful building situated art Mustafa Chowk, Multan Road, Dera Ghazi Khan which was inaugurated by the Minister for Education, Punjab Mian Imran Masood on 9^th August, 2004. This education department is doing very hard work for the progress of Education and awareness of education among the people of villages of all above mentioned districts. The Government of Punjab is controlling authority of this education department. There are many functions which this Education department has to perform. It has to issue diplomas and certificates to the successful candidates and it also award scholarships, medals and prizes to position holders.

For Matriculation level Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dera Ghazi Khan has set two types of group which are (Science and Arts). For Intermediate level Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dera Ghazi Khan has set six different groups which are (Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Computer Science, Commerce, General Science and Arts). Dera Ghazi Khan Board conducts exams of intermediate and secondary every year and a great number of students participate in these exams every year. This education department is doing a very great job for the progress of education, this education department first makes the Dates sheets of all groups whether of Matriculation or Intermediate and after exams this department also announced result.
